The European Commission is launching a sector inquiry into e-commerce. The European Union’s competition regulator is looking at concerns over barriers to cross-border online sales. The sector investigation is an information gathering exercise, as it would like to understand the dynamics of the market and why there are fewer cross-border trades than it would like to see. This could be due to language barriers or other reasons such as different laws. It wishes to hear from content holders, manufacturers, online retailers and online platforms across the EU. The Commission expects to report in around the middle of 2016.
